Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible to receive a cake?
We bake birthday cakes for children in foster care, children in shelters or group homes, and those experiencing hardship. If you know a child who could use a little extra joy on their birthday, you’re welcome to submit a nomination!
Does everyone nominated receive a cake?
Not everyone nominated is guaranteed a cake. We do our best to reach as many children as possible, but our resources are limited. Each nomination is thoughtfully reviewed, and while we wish we could bake for everyone, we prioritize based on need and availability.
Who can nominate a child?
At this time, nominations are limited to professionals who work directly with children, such as social workers, case workers, school staff, and church leaders. These individuals are often closest to the needs of the families in their care and help ensure that nominations remain genuine and focused on children who may not otherwise be celebrated.
How far in advance should I submit a nomination?
We ask that nominations be submitted at least 3 weeks before the child’s birthday to allow enough time for planning and baking. Last-minute submissions are considered on a case-by-case basis.
How many cakes do you provide each month?
Currently, The Sprinkle Project can serve around 4–6 children each month. This helps us keep things intentional and magical. As we grow, we hope to expand that number!
Can I request a theme for the cake?
Yes! We love creating cakes that reflect each child’s unique personality. Whether they’re into dinosaurs, mermaids, or Spider-Man, we’ll do our best to match the theme. For tight timelines, we may offer a few simple designs to choose from.
While we love bringing a child’s favorite characters or interests to life, resources for themed cakes are limited. This might mean adding simple touches like toppers, figures, or themed colors rather than fully customized designs. We appreciate your understanding as we try to make each cake special with what we have!
Do you offer allergy-friendly options?
Yes — we take allergies seriously. Our nomination form includes a section to list any known allergies, and we currently offer nut-free cakes. We’re working toward safely providing other allergy-friendly options (like gluten- or dairy-free) in the future.
Where do you deliver?
At this time, we’re focused on serving Nelson and Hardin Counties in Kentucky. If you’re outside of that area, feel free to reach out — we may still be able to help or point you to similar programs near you.
Can I volunteer or donate to help?
Right now, we aren’t in need of volunteers—but that could change soon! We’re just getting started and appreciate your support more than you know. Stay tuned for future opportunities to get involved and make a sprinkle-worthy impact. Reach out via our Contact Page or email us at info@thesprinkleproject.org to learn more.
